Physical Classroom
My classroom will be set up in a way that makes my students feel safe by being warm and inviting. It will also allow students a level of freedom when they do assignments by having free seating. Students have different needs when they are learning and completing assignments, so by allowing them to sit where they want, they will be comfortable and able to be more successful. Many of my assignments will be collaborative, which will help students build a community and a rapport with each other. By devoting a corner of my room for reading, I will encourage students to be passionate about reading.
![]() Ideal Classroom | ![]() Standing AreaStudents have so much energy and can sometimes get in trouble when they are moving too much. Having a standing area allows students to get up and move and use their bodies while still being productive. | ![]() Flexible SeatingAlong with a standing area, I want my students to be able to sit around the room while doing independent work. This gives them opportunities to show self-control and responsibility. This also shows that you trust them to complete their work no matter where they are sitting. High expectations will bring high results. |

![]() Student IndependenceMornings can be chaotic. There are a million things that have to be done, and you are being bombarded with a million questions. Having an area for students to turn in homework/ notes for the teacher, check graded assignments, and look at what is happening is going to curb some questions and helps with organization. | ![]() Group SeatingLearning is collaborative. In my classroom, my students will always be sitting in groups of some sort (except for testing). Students should be able to talk to each other and learn from each other. Also, when students are given opportunities to talk during a lesson, they will be less likely to talk when they need to be silent. | ![]() Reading CornerIf I have room in my classroom, I would love to devote a corner of my classroom for a reading corner. Students will see that I put an emphasis on reading and I hope that will encourage them to read more. It is also another place for students to sit and do their work during free seating |
![]() Reading RugThis is a cozy smaller version of the reading corner. It could be a good place for students to meet in small groups to talk about books they are reading. Students should be able to read while they are comfortable, so these pillows and rug is the perfect thing to entice students to read. | ![]() Supply TowerStudents having any supplies they might need near them will stop long minutes spent passing out materials. It also means that students know where supplies are without asking. | ![]() Curbing QuestionsAdding something along these lines to help curb questions will help me to answer other student questions. This is a preventative strategy to help students know what they are supposed to do in order to avoid behavior issues or unnecessary talking. |
