On the first day of school, I will have students break up into pairs (they should not know each other). They will then interview each other asking them at least 10 questions. Then, each person will introduce the other in front of the class. Students might raise their hands when there is something in common.

In small groups of 3, students will create a t-chart of common likes and common dislikes. Then, as a class, we can see if there is something that all the groups put on their charts. The students must come up with five things under each chart. The students should be truthful and really try and find commonalities between them, because they are there.

Each week, there will be a student of the week. This student will orally or through pictures tell us about his or her family, background, and other things that they want to share with the class.
